How Montage Big Sky’s Residences Are Elevating The Montana Ski Town’s Luxury Offerings

BY: Emma Reynolds | JUNE 29, 2021

Montage Big Sky is Montana’s first-ever ultra-luxury, five-star resort, set to open in 2021. Like most Montage Hotels and Resorts, the property will have luxury ownership opportunities, which includes 39 two-bedroom to six-bedroom residences ranging from $5 million to $18.6 million. Future residents will have access to all of the hotel’s luxury amenities, as well as unique residential services.

Amid the Covid-19 pandemic, Big Sky has been a popular destination for the wealthy, as many scoop up second, third or fourth homes. Montage Big Sky’s residential offerings are coming at the right time when the town is experiencing a major demand but struggles with lack of inventory.

Not only does the ski-in, ski-out resort offer immediate access to Big Sky Resort’s 5,800 acres of skiable terrain, but it’s also appealing to families as it’s a year-round destination. Tina Necrason, EVP of Residential at Montage International, says that the timing of the launch for Montage Big Sky’s residential offerings is what makes it exceptionally unique across the Montage portfolio as now is the time when people are deciding to invest in a secondary home.

“People now are spending more time with their family and seeking a home that offers safety and security, but also an effortless lifestyle which we provide,” Necrason says. “Often we would see people maybe later in their life cycle purchasing another home, but people are now making that decision a lot earlier. It’s creating this flurry of activity and acceleration and all that momentum is just continuing to grow.”

Montage Big Sky is located within the 3,530-acre Spanish Peaks enclave, which features untouched wilderness and nature offerings. There’s an 18-hole Tom Weiskopf-designed golf course, proximity to world-class fly-fishing, hiking, mountain biking and more. The resort is also less than an hour from Yellowstone National Park. It’s no surprise that more than 70% of the residences have already sold.

“Montage Big Sky is unique for us from a location standpoint and destination, and it’s special and unique to be part of the first ultra-luxury brand to come to this market,” she says. “We knew that we would be able to provide really robust and effortless residential living as part of an extension of the hotel. You’ll see all of our traditional service offerings by way of amenities and service. But we also customize and personalize our residents’ experiences based on their lifestyles.”

Montage Big Sky’s 2021 opening coincides with the growth of the town in other ways, including the development of the Big Sky Town Center.

“The developer of Montage Big Sky is also developing many of the outlets and building the community in the downtown area,” Necrason says. “They’re helping to create a real sense of place and community there.”

Owners can enjoy mountain living with a modern twist. The residences, which all have front-row mountain views, have mountain-style interiors with local materials like hand-stacked stone and regional woods, but also will have state-of-the-art appliances and technology. Residences feature white-oak cabinetry, luxury millwork, oak-plank flooring, quartz kitchen counters, a Lutron lighting system, vaulted ceilings and fireplaces. Some residences have up to four balconies for ideal, year-round indoor-outdoor living.

“We were inspired by the mountains and bringing that in in a really modern way,” she says. “The design aspects are a departure from the heavy wood-type feeling. It’s much lighter and brighter through the use of natural stones. The style of materials are a modern interpretation of a ski destination.”

Every aspect of the homes are taken care of by Montage Big Sky’s residential staff, including 24-hour concierge and security, housekeeping, maintenance services and a team to look after their homes when they’re away. Homeowners will have a private entrance apart from the hotel; a private ski locker in a residential locker room; storage area; dedicated underground parking; à la carte services like private air travel arrangements and transportation; priority access to restaurants and Spa Montage; and more.

“We also handle all of the preventative maintenance work in your home, which is the less glamorous side, but important to our owners from an asset preservation standpoint,” Necrason says. “It’s a big part of what we offer in terms of services and the general extension of their families. That’s how our teams engage as we watch children grow, have multi-generations coming in. We want to create special moments for our owners.”
